The Great Mason Power Outage of 2011 – Sunday. 5-29-11

Well, mom and dad were having a very uneventful day.  It was around when mom and dad decided to turn on the TV.  When they did they were surprised to find out that the local station was broadcasting some special programming to let people know a storm was on the way.  So, I decided to do my tumbling to some “Thunderstruck.”

Storms always excite mom because she loves watching them (weird…huh?)  Anyways, it was very calm outside.  No breeze, no birds flying in the sky, just a calm evening.  That was until they started tracking a storm that was scheduled to hit Mason (the place where mom and dad live).  Mom and dad were not worried until they heard this odd sound…the storm coming.  It was at that point that mom and dad decided to take a siesta in the bathroom.  They could hear the wind whipping around outside from the storm.  Within a few minutes the power went out.  After about 15 minutes they emerged from the bathroom to find a lot of tree branches down and some debris in the parking lot.  Dad decided to venture out to see how bad it really was.  They had a lot of very large trees down blocking roads and down power lines in there neighborhood.  Dad took some pictures so mom could see the destruction since she couldn’t leave the house.

Well, this did not bother mom and dad at all.  They were happy they were just without power.  Dad decided to venture to Meijer to grab dinner for us (the only store open in Mason).

When dad got back they had a picnic dinner and sat around a “campfire” (aka candles) for the rest of the night.  They laughed, joked around and ate “somores.”  I of course had to sing some songs and do some tumbling before bed.  The “campfire” reminded me of a “Ring of Fire.”  So, I sang some Johnny Cash and did my tumbling.  When I was done mom and dad ventured to bed with no power.
